Story

As most of you know, this past August I was admitted to Charing Cross hospital for a tumour in my uterus- known as trophoblastic disease or Choriocarcinoma, which is very rare and not much is known about what causes it.  I was started on a low-dose chemotherapy which unfortunately wasn't effective enough and I had to move up to high-risk chemo in October.  I had 13 weeks of high risk chemo which involved lots of time at Charing Cross hospital and thanks to the great care I was given there by Dr Savage and his team I have been cured and should never incur any further problems.  I will even be able to try for another baby in December!  Before 1996 the only way to treat me would have been a complete hysterectomy so I feel very fortunate for the advances that research has made and I want to do my part to help advance this and support other women like myself.

While I was weakened and sick during Chemo I dreamed about when I would be well and getting back in shape and now I have the chance to do that.  Of course it's easy to make these resolutions but difficult to stick to it, so I've entered this duathalon to motivate myself and by supporting the Charing Cross I will be further motivated and make it all mean more to me.  The department is facing cutbacks and there are many improvements to the services that they want to make to better help others like me.

As further motivation to get you to support me, my husband is also doing the Duathalon and if he loses to me he will match all of your donations out of his own pocket!  (And i'm thinking of making him complete it on our 2 year old daughters tricycle!)  Those of you who know how incredibly competitive my husband is should not be able to resist this.  The duathalon is 10 km run, 20 km bike and 5 km run in Richmond park.
