We support young people around the world to confront the planet's most urgent crises

Story

Hello! Thanks for visiting my page.

My name is Camille Chappell and I was recently accepted on the International Citizens Service (ICS) scheme, which is a leading global volunteering project for young people funded by the Department for International Development (DFID). This scheme aims to bring young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most.

In October 2014 I will leave life as I know it and go to southern India for just short of 3 months to complete a development program. I’ll be living in a rural community working alongside other volunteers from both the UK and India, on a project that aims to tackle poverty by attenuating to the communities specific needs, to provide a more sustainable, positive and better equip future. The work we will do will include things like construction work to provide better health and sanitation facilities, ground work which will help tackle the agricultural needs of the community, educating of the people and an overall strengthening of the civil society and southern India's environment. The beauty of the program is that it directly responds to the exact needs of the community, so it is only upon arrival that we will realise what exactly needs to be done.

But rest assured, this won't be a holiday- the living circumstances will be very basic, as will food, there wont be any mobile signal and not one bikini will be packed, just plenty of mosquito nets and my heavy duty walking boots!

My fundraising target is £800 for Raleigh International Trust who are one of the respected development agencies that deliver ICS. I am not fundraising for myself, all proceeds go to Raleigh which will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work.

Of course i'm not going to be lay about until I leave, I will be putting on a couple of ticketed music events in Liverpool whereby the young talent will be exposed in popular venues around the city centre and people can have a good time. I will also be getting my bake-on! selling cakes and whatnot in business receptions, university and organised events, among lots and lots of other things wherever and whenever I can.

If you can help at all, (every 50p counts!) I will greatly appreciate it and love you forever! Thank you so much.
