Story
Page-Turners, Caldicott’s charity readathon 2021, will be launched on Wednesday 3 February with a very special assembly at 1.30pm, to which you are all invited. This year we will be supporting the incredible Dusty Yak orphanage in Nepal and, in this assembly, we will get the chance to meet the girls at the orphanage, hear more about Dusty Yak and share our love of reading.
Over the course of the readathon, we will also be inviting boys to support the Nepalese children with their spoken English by taking part in readings and sharing their top book choices by creating interactive book reviews.
The book that we will be reading alongside the girls at Dusty Yak is, The Night Bus Hero, by Onjali Q Rauf. We encourage you to purchase a copy; it is an incredible story exploring themes of kindness, friendship and changing for the good.
To raise money for the orphanage, all boys in the school are being asked to read as many books as they can between Wednesday 3rd Feb – Thursday 4 March. They will be asking their friends and family to sponsor their reading efforts, with all funds raised going directly to Dusty Yak.
Alongside the readathon, we are running a competition where boys can win prizes and those all-important house points for reading the most pages and creating engaging virtual book reviews. All boys will be given a sponsorship form (attached). Donations can also be made via our Just Giving page. When making your donation online please include the first initial, surname and year group of the boy you are supporting. In addition, you can donate directly to the charity and we can also add donations onto the end of term bill on request.
All funds will be totalled up and prizes will be awarded to the boy who reads the most pages, raises the most sponsorship and creates the best virtual book review.
