Story

[english] (texte français en dessous)

We write this plea to you with great sadness. The situation for displaced people in Northern France right now can only be described as terrible.

Police and state resistance has been increasing over the past few months and we do not expect their oppressive hand to ease any time soon.

As weather conditions continue to be harsh and freezing, it is imperative that we are able to provide food and water throughout the end of winter. It is more important than ever that people have access to food to keep them going amidst hostile weather conditions, including the snow we have seen in the past week. We are working alongside our sister org, the Woodyard, who distribute firewood, to enable people to cook our items.

Each day we provide enough food for meals over the next two days. Distributing regularly prevents seizure of food by the police - which happens in regular evictions and during sporadic power displays so regularly demonstrated by the police.

We pledge to always show up for the displaced people in Northern France, no matter the circumstance.

The situation across Calais and Grande-Synthe is naturally unstable, and will continue to be so. However, what we can guarantee is that we can add stability into people’s lives, via a trusted and dedicated service - this is where you come in.

We need your support to make this promise to people. We are a very small team, with a very large remit. We are currently trying to support around 1,400 people across Calais and Grande-Synthe. Our access to funding is limited and we are calling upon anyone who can spare any amount at all, to rally into action for the displaced people who are mistreated daily in front of us. Their rights are constantly stripped from them, even when it seems that the French state and police cannot possibly do more.

What your donation can buy:

£1 will give a pack of water bottles so people can stay clean and hydrated.

£3 will provide 4 families with milk for their children.

£5 is enough tinned tomatoes for two days, for a group of twenty-two people.

£10 can buy two boxes of tinned lentils, which provides a group of twelve people with protein for four meals.

£20 will provide 11 people with vegetable oil for a week, this is necessary for cooking any meal!
