As most of you know I packed my backpack a few months ago and headed for Vietnam. As most of you probably don't know I have since decided to take the month of April off from work and cycle 1,200 miles from Hanoi back to Ho Chi Minh City for charity.
As in so many places severe poverty is still a real issue here in Vietnam. The charities my ride supports work specifically with children. A focus on supporting children to have better lives and better education is vital to ending the cycle of poverty.
Our main charity this year is Saigon Children's Charity. The SCC aims to help disadvantaged children in Vietnam to reach their full potential through receiving a quality education relevant to their needs. The SCC is distinguished for giving scholarships, building schools, running a vocational school in HCMC and working with other, smaller organizations that focus on children with disabilities. They enable over 3,000 children to go to school everyday in Vietnam! Its area of operation is in the south of Vietnam, around HCMC, the Mekong Delta and extending to the Cambodian border.
We have four other charities which our ride supports one of which is The Children's Initiative. http://www.childrensinitiative.org, TCI is dedicated to improving the lives of children in developing countries through strategic, long-term investments in community-based projects and programs. TCI works in partnership with local communities to help them realize their aspirations for their children. Its area of operation is in the north of Vietnam, based around Catdang village near Hanoi.
I am excited to have the opportunity to give back to the country which I now call home. I am also excited (and terrified) for the miles ahead of me! It will be a wonderful, exciting and very challenging month and I hope you will join me by donating what you can. All of the money you donate goes directly to the charities, my expenses on the ride are 100% self funded. Our group of 20 is asked to each individually raise $1,000, I am aiming to double that. That money is on top of what we raise through events and fundraising in HCMC together as a team.
Follow our progress before and during the ride on our website and blog www.h2hcharityride.org & www.h2hrfvc.blogspot.com.
Thank you for your support!
