Story
Hello! Many thanks for stopping by.
In March I will be going to Burkina Faso to volunteer on a development programme with International Service for 2.5 months. I will be working with International Service’s project-partners on a community-based project which supports marginalised women and people with disabilities to better understand their rights – and put them into action – creating sustainable change so that their rights can be protected in the future.
I will be working as part of a team alongside an equal number of local volunteers from Burkina Faso and UK volunteers. This is part of the International Citizen Service Scheme (ICS), which brings young people together to work in partnership with international charities and local organisations to effect change and make a difference where it is most needed.
The UK Government will be funding my placement entirely, on the agreement that I raise £800 before I go. This means that none of your donation goes to my individual trip costs, such as travel, visa etc. The money goes to support the continuation of the program in the country so that International Service can continue to bring about positive change in the communities where they work. You can find out more about what they do and their approach to development here: www.internationalservice.org.uk
As some of you may know, I have worked for International Service for the past year. They are a brilliant charity which does fantastic work overseas. I will be taking a career break for 2.5 months to go to Burkina Faso to see in person one of the projects I have been hearing so much about.
I believe in fighting for human rights and I wouldn't be going on this placement if I didn't think that what I will be doing will be sustainable and worthwhile. My work on one project may be a small contribution, but it will be one step closer as part of this global effort.
Anything that you are able to give will make a real difference to the lives of people in the countries where ICS works. No amount is too small. Even £1, or the amount of one coffee, is appreciated. The pennies will add up too.
£££ and $$$ are both accepted so, from the UK to California, I appreciate all of your support.
Been asked about €€€'s as well. I will take anything :) From Rupees to Yen.Many thanks,
Caitlin
