Story
Hi,my name is Theo,
In July I am going to Bulgaria with The CRED Foundation, to help teach Roma children at school while their mothers are learning new skills
to support their families and be self sufficient.
WHAT?
The Bulgaria CRED Team Trip is an opportunity to
travel to Stara Zagora in Bulgaria where we will spend a week working with the
children, delivering high-quality educational activities to
Roma children at one of the schools in the community.
Facilitated by FSCI, a partner of CRED Foundation, the children we will be working with live in chronic poverty, and are marginalized within their community; this week will be the closest they come to getting a holiday.
WHY?
Stara Zagora is home to the largest community of Roma people in Bulgaria, and
the living standard for most of them is one of extreme poverty. They are also
very ostracised by the local Bulgarians, access to education is difficult and unemployment is very high. Their
prospects of getting out of poverty are very low.
By going to this local primary school we will be providing a week of lessons and activities and much-needed resources.
What do I need?
I need to raise £1100
How am I
going to do this? So far I have baked and sold brownies at the Brighton
half marathon; organised a movie night at school; and babysat. Next, I am organising
a beach clean along Brighton seafront.
