Story
Thanks for visiting my Just Giving Page. I have been offered a place to run in the London Marathon on Sunday 4th October 2022, I shall be running for MacMillan Cancer Support in memory of My Mum, who sadly passed away on 27th April 2021.
In 2013, My Mum was diagnosed with Vulval Cancer. It's a fairly rare form of Cancer but still one that had many impacts on her and our lives. As a former nurse she was lucky to notice the sign of Cancer and was seen by a specialist early. She was quickly admitted for an operation which was successful. The Cancer was removed and no further spreading had occurred. Her follow up checks in months and years to come went well and thankfully she remained in full remission.
A little bit of detail about My Mum, her life and the difficult times she had. In 2003 she had a fall which caused a major break to the head of humorous in her left shoulder. As years went on, and four operations, she lost all mobility. In 2014, she had another fall and major damage was done to the rotator cuff in her right shoulder and multiple operations and sessions of acupuncture could not repair the damage. This left Mum with minimal mobility in either arm and left her practically disabled. This ended up with my dad giving up his business to take care of her.
In March 2018, Mum & Dad were enjoying a well deserved break in Paris, two days into the break she was taken critically ill with a chest infection. She ended up in Intensive Care in a foreign country and was put in an induced coma. The care she received was phenomenal and she was finally repatriated back to UK four weeks later but she never fully recovered from the infection.
As some know, in April 2021 she had a fall at home in which she broke her tibia and fibula in six places. The surgery was successful, however, some bone marrow from the break was released into the bloodstream which is not unusual. The bone marrow caused a blockage in the lungs and left Mum struggling to breathe. She was admitted to ICU and put into an induced coma. This was all at the end of the second Covid19 lockdown. Unfortunately, she never recovered consciousness and after 17 days her life support was turned off, she sadly passed away on 27th April 2021, my dad, myself and three older brothers were at her side.
My Mum didn't have the best of luck in her life but one her greatest and happiest achievements was when she beat Cancer. I know she would want as much money raised as possible to contribute to the amazing work which Macmillan continue to do and so more people become aware of the potential signs of Cancer earlier and therefore prevent the disastrous outcomes that Cancer can cause.
All donations; how big or small will be greatly appreciated and will be going to support an amazing charity.
