Boring:
This is a personal challenge and a target to get fitter (or fit) especially after recently discovering that my blood pressure is on the high side. Until April 2012, and apart from playing football once in a blue moon, the longest distance I had ever run in my life is 400m. I've walked and hiked longer distances but I've never run longer than my 400m relay back in high school. My biggest current challenge is therefore getting my leg muscles to support me moving at speed (a very relative term). I started training for this back in April with a 1-minute run followed by a 4-minute walk repeated a few times. I've worked this up to a 3-minute run (ish) and a 1-minute walk today (late May) covering a distance of just over 5km every second day.
In order to have the appropriate amount of guilt that is required to ensure a) I continue exercising and b) I actually turn up for the run on July 8th, I registered with JustGiving. Our experience with the 10k run and indeed JustGiving when Noreen (my wife) did it in 2010 was a positive one. She exceeded her target of £1500, and I'm setting mine a little lower because frankly she knows more generous people than I do. They will no doubt view this page and do their bit :)
I chose a children's charity. I looked through many and although I don't know anyone at Hope for Children, I like what I read about their work. They help orphaned, poor and exploited children world wide.
Show me the money!
