Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Wow! It may of taken me 570hours to complete this challenge over 249 days, and 42 pairs of gloves, but I did it!! The first mile I pushed on 8th April took  me over an hour to complete, but it didn’t put me off my goal. Just taking that first push and focusing on one mile at a time I did it! I finished!

Massive thanks to all my supporters worldwide. Thanks for joining in with my virtual 5k’s and I’m so happy that I am inspiring so many of you to push your own limits and to believe in yourself.

My original target was £2000, but with so much support and reaching that target before I was even half way I have decided to see if with your help I can raise an amazing £3500 for Ability Shetland whilst pushing myself 1679miles!

Who am I?

My name is Brynn and I am 15yrs old, people may already know me through my social media pages ‘Breaking down barriers with Brynn.’ I live in Shetland with my mom and sister. I have a diagnosis of autism, ADHD, severe asthma and I also have fixed ankle contractures which means I rely on a wheelchair to get around. I have also been volunteering with Ability Shetland at their children’s clubs for over 3 years and have volunteered over 300 hours at the clubs helping other children.

This year I was already planning a completely different challenge to help raise funds for Ability Shetland, but with everything that is going on in the world right now I am needing to rethink about how I can challenge myself and fundraise whilst self isolating!

What am I doing?

So with a lot of thought I have decided that for this years challenge I am going to attempt to push myself in my wheelchair 1679 miles, which is the equivalent of Shetlands Coastline! I will be doing this whilst self isolating in my house and in my garden by using an Invictus wheelchair trainer (Exercise rollers for wheelchairs!) Now that guidelines have changed I am now getting outside locally to get the miles done.

Why am I doing this?

Ability Shetland is a charity that provides support to people all over Shetland, from childrens clubs, sports clubs, art clubs, boat trips, going on walks and the use of adapted equipment for locals and visitors to use to get outside and explore what Shetland has to offer.

Last year Ability Shetland helped me to rediscover the great outdoors and also my freedom. They gave me the chance to use one of their all terrain Mountain Trike wheelchairs and opened up a whole new world to me. With Ability Shetlands help and by using their Mountain trike I was able to fundraise and raise money to purchase my very own active wheelchair.

My life has changed so much since then and it is because of this that I have been able to get outside and see sights I never thought I would see with my family and friends. My family have now become official OS Getoutside Champions and I have also been recognised as Ledlenser’s everyday hero, none of this we ever thought possible.

All money raised will go to Ability Shetland to enable them to continue helping and providing support to the people of Shetland and visitors from far and wide.
