Story
On the 18th September 2014 a Morrisons team comprising of Bryan Burger , Andy Clegg & Stuart Purvis will cycle from London to Paris in support of Grocery Aid ,the benevolent charity which works with current and former grocery industry colleagues who need support in times of need.
All three of us have been training hard over the last few months to complete this tough but rewarding challenge.
Grocery Aid is a charity for people who are working or have worked in the grocery, provisions, greengrocers and off-licence industries. They work with 8,500 current and former industry colleagues from the largest factories through to the smallest stores offering financial support or through the Grocery Aid Helpline. They will spend more that £3.7m on welfare and support this year alone. The breadth and depth of support that they offer now ranges from an annual annuity to a crisis grant to their Helpline. The Helpline focuses on personal welfare problems that arise at work and at home. It is open to all who work in the grocery industry.
The bruising 230 mile route will be cycled over 3 days finishing at the famous Eiffel Tower in Paris on Saturday 20th September. On day one, the route takes the peloton 70 miles from the start in Esher over the North and South Downs to Hayling Island near Portsmouth. Day 2 we cycle from Caen 90 miles through the French countryside finally stopping in Evreux for the night. On the final day we wend our way 70 miles to Versailles and then on to the finish in the centre of Paris.
