We support Kisiizi Hospital in SW Uganda to bring healthcare to the vulnerable

Story

Bro Madryn Ministry area has a special link with a hospital in Kisiizi, Uganda. Many of us have been supporting it for years through prayer and fundraising.

Recently, the area suffered flash floods which damaged their hydro-electric power supply, the children’s ward (which had to be evacuated) and the maternity unit. Fortunately nobody was hurt, but while the flooding was happening, a pregnant woman arrived by car and her premature baby was delivered — and resuscitated — on the back seat of the car!

The vital work at Kisiizi Hospital continues in the most difficult conditions, all with Covid-19 in the background. The medical superintendent at Kisiizi Hospital has highlighted the anticipated impacts of Covid 19, and the need for increased funding at this time :

• Supply lines of essential medicines and equipment into the hospital - already some key obstetric drugs are in short supply and prices are increasing ; transport is becoming more challenging.

•The school of nursing & midwifery has had to close, meaning that all of the practical ways in which the students contribute to hospital life are lost - this will leave a big hole.

•The cancellation of student electives and visitors from overseas - not only are there a lot of disappointed people, visitors provide key income for the hospital, with significant contributions to the Good Samaritan Fund which supports the poorest patients.

• The impact on the insurance scheme - the insurance scheme premiums are very low but if a lot of people suddenly become unwell, this could cause the scheme to collapse - a very real danger despite its being one of the oldest and best established schemes in Southern Africa.

• You will have heard a lot about the upscaling of intensive care in the UK.   Kisiizi has one operating theatre ventilator  and no intensive care capabilities, the supplies of oxygen and respiratory support are very limited.  The service could easily become overwhelmed.

Please do send any donation that you can.

Am fwy na hanner can mlynedd mae Ysbyty Kisiizi  yng nghefn gwlad Uganda wedi cael dolen  efo Ardal Weinidogaeth Bro Madryn. Yr ydym wedi’i gefnogi drwy weddiau a rhoddion.

Yn ddiweddar bu llifogydd fflach yn yr ardal, ac achoswyd difrod i’r cyflenwad ynni hydro-trydanol, ward y plant (bu rhaid ei wacáu)a’r uned famolaeth. Drwy drugaredd , ni niweidiwyd unrhyw un, ond tra ’roedd y llifogydd yn codi, cyrhaeddodd merch feichiog mewn car a rhoi genedigaeth i’w babi cynamserol, a gafodd ei adfywhau ar sêt gefn y car!

Mae’r gwaith hollbwysig yma yn parhau o dan yr amgylchiadau mwyaf anodd, a chyda Covid19 yn y cefndir. Mae’r arolygydd meddygol wedi rhagweld ac yn tynnu sylw at y bygythiadau i’w disgwyl  o ddyfodiad Covid-19 , a’r angen am gynnyddu ein rhoddion ariannol yn awr :

* Cyflenwadau o feddyginiaethau hanfodol ac offer i’r ysbyty - mae prinder rhai cyffuriau allweddol yn yr uned obstetreg ac mae prisiau yn codi,  hefyd  mae cludiant  yn mynd yn fwy heriol.

* Bu rhaid cau’r ysgol nyrsio a bydwreigiaeth  gan olygu colled i’r holl ffyrdd mae’r myfyrwyr yn eu cyfrannu at fywyd yr Ysbyty - golyga hyn fwlch enfawr .

* Dilëir triniaethau a drefnwyd o flaen llaw ac ymweliadau o dramor- nid yn unig yn siomi pobl ond mae ymwelwyr tramor yn dod ag incwm allweddol i’r ysbyty, maent yn cyfrannu’n sylweddol at Gronfa y Samariad Trugarog (sy’n cefnogi'r cleifion tlotaf).

* Yr ergyd i’r cynllun yswiriant- mae’r taliadau'r cynllun yswiriant yn isel iawn- pe bai nifer fawr o bobl yn dioddef salwch yn sydyn, medr hyn achosi i’r cynllun fethu- mae hwn yn berygl tebygol iawn er iddo fod yn un o gynlluniau hynaf a mwyaf llwyddiannus yn Ne Affrica.

* Byddwch wedi clywed llawer am y cynnydd yn ein darpariaeth o ofal dwys un y DU. Mae gan Kisiizi un peiriant anadlu i’r theatr llawfeddyol a dim cymhwyster gofal dwys, a chyflenwad cyfyngedig o ocsigen a chymorth anadlu. Mae’n bosib i’r gwasanaeth gael ei drechu’n llwyr.

Plîs cyfrennwch yn ôl eich gallu .
