Story
We are fundraising to create a Bright Space at Watford Police Station. The Bright Space will be located in two rooms of the police station, where it will support children who have been removed from their homes for their emergency protection, and placed into the care of the Police.
Children arrive at the police station with few possessions, distressed and confused; they often have long periods to wait, sometimes overnight or for several days, until a suitable foster placement can be arranged.
At present the rooms are bare with just sofas and chairs, some donated toys and a playstation. We are planning to transform the rooms so that they are welcoming, comfortable and child-friendly. One will be used primarily as a play space and will be well resourced with a range of age appropriate toys, books, games, relaxation toys, and art and craft supplies, as well as comfortable seating and soft furnishings.
The second room will primarily be used for sleep and rest, and will be equipped with beds, bedding, comforting soft furnishings, and soft lighting, as well as a CD player and range of books for bedtime stories.
The spaces have been designed with flexibility in mind, so that children from two families could be accommodated if needed; and to provide a place for older children to play while their younger siblings sleep.
Please donate what you can - every penny adds up and makes a difference! Thank you for your support!
