Story
The last marathon I ran was 25 years ago, the 1997 London Marathon for Macmillan. Last time I ran it, my late sister was being treated for ovarian cancer and I saw at first hand the brilliant and valuable support she received from her MacMillan nurse. My training and race partner for 1997 was my lovely wife, Karen and without her, I would not have done the training and would certainly not finished the race on the day (I got a bit wobbly at mile 20).
25 years later and Karen is now benefitting from the work of Macmillan, as she goes through treatment for breast cancer. It was caught early thankfully, has now been removed but the support she needs and gets is second to none.
She won’t be training with me but her inspiration will drive me to prepare for and run the race for this important cause.
So, 25 years since I last ran the marathon, its time to give it another go - what could possibly go wrong? :)
