Story
25th April 2010 sees the 30th London Marathon, sponsored for the first time this year by Virgin. It will be my third time, having completed the race in 2005 and 2007. The day of the 2007 race was the warmest in the history of the London Marathon; I finished in 3 hours 5 minutes - but will do well to come even close to that this time!
As you may know, I've been commuting to London since December - working for the London Borough of Southwark. Much of the second quarter of the London Marathon passes through Southwark - and just yards from my office on Tooley Street just before crossing Tower Bridge! So it seemed appropriate that this year I use my sponsorship to raise money for a local volunatry organisation.
Over the years I have been interested in ways to support people with mental health needs, and in the contribution that community arts organisations can make. Whilst in Southwark I have heard a lot of good things about the work of CoolTan Arts and am asking you to make a small contribution to their work. CoolTan Arts believe that well-being is enhanced by the power of creativity and are run by and for those with mental distress. Find out more at www.cooltanarts.org.uk
