Story
In April 2013 myself Philip Jones will be attempting to complete the Brighton Marathon on behalf of The Cure and Action for Tay Sachs (CATS) Foundation. Around the same time Matthew Williams will be travelling north to take part in The 2013 Edinburgh Marathon. Alhough both Philip (Shanghai) and Matthew (London) have previously succesfully ran the 26.2 mile marathon distance before this will be my first attempt at running this amazing distance.
To aid us in our training both myself and Philip will be taking part in the Cardiff Half Marathon on 14th Oct 2012, again my first ever half marathon. To coincide with the Cardiff Half we have decided to begin our fundraising quest now in the hope we can raise as much money and awareness for the charity as we can.
As most people are aware the reason for us doing this is to raise money and awareness in the fight against Tay Sachs disease which my beautiful nephew Archie was diagnosed with last year. The disease is terminal and has no cure, and unfortuantely most kids with Tay Sachs will lose their battle with disease before the age of 4 years old. The disease is an unrelenting nuerological disorder which takes away a childs ability to speak, walk, crawl and with a very weak immune system means the child is prone to infections which can be deadly. Most Tay Sachs sufferers will lose thier sight, hearing, ability to swallow and suffer from regular seizures.
The money raised for CATS Foundation will either go towards helping make the lives of Tay Sachs sufferers (and their families) that little bit more special and comfortable or direct into research that will hopefully one day find a cure for the disease.
Whether it is funding vital equipment or special one off life experiences for the family the CATS Foundation has played a vital role in Archie's life and provide amazing support to my family.
