Story
2013 - A two part challenge - July climbing in the Andes followed by Everest in October.
For over 10 years I have been undertaking a number of challenges for a variety of charities. These range from climbing mountains such as Kilimanjaro, Mt Kenya and the Atlas Mountains; long distance walks across the UK and Africa; long distance cycle rides to John O'Groats and back and in 2012 I did 1,000 miles cycling ride along the Danube. In the process I have raised over £110,000 for various charities. In 2013 as I reach the age of 78, I have decided to support Marie Curie Cancer Care, the details are on this page. Please feel free to donate either through this page or by contacting me.
In July I will be climbing in the Andes to about 14,000 ft before descending to the Amazon rain forest and visiting Mach Picchu. The second part of my challenge for 2013 will see me be back climbing on Everest. My son Jonathan is joining me (I think it's called "the blind leading the blind"), but I hasten to add we are not going to the top, I know my limitations, besides which we can't afford the time to queue! This time it will be scaling Mt Kala Patther, Everest Base Camp and the Khumbu Glacier.
I should point out that as on all previous occasions I will be paying all my own expenses and therefore every penny raised goes to the charity concerned. If you are a UK tax payer then remember you can Gift Aid your contribution at no extra cost to yourself but the charity benefits by recovering the tax.
