Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
Volunteers will travel from London to Tororo, a small rural town located approximately 230km east of Kampala, Uganda's capital and largest city. They will work alongside staff from YPI, Rock Foundation Trust and the local Ugandan community in a variety of programmes, directly benefiting the Tororo community through facilitation of a combination of the following activities:
Health Promotion Outreach:
Workshops on public health issues focused on two key groups:
Mothers: Sexual Health, HIV/AIDS, Malaria, Hygiene, Reproductive Health, Nutrition and Sanitation.
Children and Young People: Providing crucial Sex and Relationships Education to young people to ensure maximum choice and safety for their future lives.
One Pound, One Tree:
A tree planting project engaging volunteers and Ugandan villagers to work together to fight desertification and land degradation, which will also help to protect the region from future flooding by stabilising the ground and providing methods of water absorption. The trees planted will also provide fruit that will help improve the wellbeing of the local people and their economic position by selling the products once they begin bearing fruit.
Volunteers will be raising funds for the project and collecting clothes and essential items throughout the summer including shoes, towels, bed linen etc. Donations can be made through the text service Text TRUG12 To 70070 To Donate
