Story

Welcome to my Just Giving fundraising page! I am running the 2024 Edinburgh Marathon for Defence Medical Rehabilitation Centre Benevolent Fund because of the help they have provided for my older brother, Chris, and all other ex military personnel.

In 2021, my brother was in an accident with a grenade which ultimately led to me and my family bracing for his death. The doctor told us that night that we should prepare ourselves as it is unlikely he will make it through the night. The year is now 2024 and he’s still going. The DMRC have been fundamental to this, aiding in his rehabilitation - as he was initially completely paralysed. Quite frankly the DMRC was the only charity I had in mind when I thought about fundraising - if it was not for them my brother might be in a completely different situation. The hard work that he had to go through inspires me each day, especially when I become lacklustre - both mentally and physically. Having to go through physical rehabilitation to be able to walk again is what I think of as hard, everything I have to do in my life compared to this is easy.

The DMRC is helping countless of other ex-military personnel and each and everyone deserves your support. Please feel free to donate whatever you can or share if you want.

Thanks,

About the charity

The DMRC Benevolent Fund purchases special goods and services for patients' rehabilitation, beyond that which is provided by the public purse. We create opportunities for patients to engage in social activities, which lets them forget about their injuries and rehabilitation for a few hours.
