Story
In 2011 I survived a sub-arachnoid haemorrhage (SAH), an event which is often fatal or leaving the survivor with cognitive deficits of varying degrees. The surgeons and specialist hospital were brilliant, but there is no aftercare once you are discharged. I was struggling to cope as the new person I had become, until a lovely specialist neuro nurse pointed me in the direction of the Brain Charity (formerly Neurosupport). This was my first solo outing into a scary new world, and it was a life-enhancing experience. Here I found friends, support, kindness and fun. The humour is often black but we can all relate to that.
The Brain Charity is filling a gap that should be, but isn't, funded by the government. It relies on donations and is largely run by volunteers. If I were still living in the UK I would be one of them, doing all I could to help. I am lucky enough to be in Liverpool for this fundraising event: not a huge walk though it will be demanding for many of those taking part. I do hope those who know me, either actually or virtually, can pledge a sum, however small, to help this worthy cause.
