Story
We have teamed up with Demelza, the children’s hospice and registered charity, to take part in the Demelza 101 this month (20 May 2017). Fourteen of our brave colleagues will be taking part in the challenge which involves either a triathlon or trek in the Lake District.
The final team is Harry Brunning, Sharon Law, Panya Upama, Mandesh Patel, Darren Greenfield, Jubayer Hashimi, Mary Joseph, Luiza Zaniewicz, Errol Brown, Robert Fitzgerald, Alan Hall, Fergus Mansfield, Mahaela Harrison.
Each participant is doing a great job of raising their own sponsorship but we wanted to make sure that they get as much support as possible by spreading the word and help to boost their fundraising!
If you need some more convincing, here’s some details of what
the team will be doing:
The Triathlon: 2 miles canoe – 25 miles cycles – 6 hours trek
After a hearty breakfast, the team will set off on their
challenge! They will start their adventure with a 2 mile canoe paddle in
Derwentwater before changing kit to complete the first of two cycle challenges. The first of which is the undulating picturesque route towards Haystacks.Haystacks stands at just under 600 metres and the team will have a fairly steep climb up to the summit before descending to start the second of our cycle challenge. The second ride will take participants through Newlands Valley then back down towards Derwenter – back to where it all started!
The Trek: 6-8 hour trek
The team will leave at 8am and head uphill towards Burnmoor
Tarn. Once near the tarn the route will turn back on itself to reach the
ridgeline that forms part of Scafell. The summit of Scafell has fantastic views of the nearby Scafell Pike, England’s highest peak. Once leaving the summit, the path heads steeply down to Foxes Tarn. The route continues down a short way through the fully and a short ascent takes you into Michledore. The summit of Scafell Pike is just 20 minutes from this point. Once at the summit of Scafell Pike, all of the Lakeland fells can be seen through 360 degrees – a fantastic view to celebrate their great achievement!
