Story
Hello and thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page!
On the 8th of May, 2011 I took part in the Halstead and Essex Marathon wearing a complete 25Kg (55lbs) bomb disposal suit in an effort to break the world record for "Fastest Marathon in a Bomb Disposal Suit." After 26.2 miles - not to mention gallons of water, isotonic drinks, and sweat - my finishing time was 7 hours and 6 minutes; time will tell whether this was enough to break the record!
Contrary to popular opinion I didn't do this because I'm crazy - I ran on behalf of the Army Benevolent Fund. The ABF support both serving and retired British soldiers, as well as their families, and have long been a charity close to my heart.
Soldiers in both past and current conflicts have endured hardships beyond imagining, and many will have had life-changing experiences that have a knock-on effect on their friends and loved ones. While running a marathon in a bomb disposal suit was by no means easy, it was a walk in the park compared to some of the things that Servicemen and women - and their families - endure in the line of duty.
So please give generously (and don't forget to Gift Aid your donation if you're eligible); every donation will be gratefully received.
Thanks again,
Dan
