Story
I don't even like walking but I signed up for this so I can raise money for the Marie Marie Hospice in Hampstead. The trek starts in Dharamsala in the Indian Himallya and we climb up to Laka Dot which is 3500m above sea level. We will be trekking for six days covering nearly 70km on challenging terrain.
So, why am I putting myself through this?
The is very challengig and lucky for me, my work as I work in the hospice, is my greatest motivation, as I am able to see first hand the remarkable work this Charity does.
We provide holistic care for for terminaly ill and patients suffering form life limiting disease. Care includes in-patient, out-patient and day therapy services. The hospice offers unique facilities such as gym and hydrotherapy pool. Patients have access to highly skilled doctors, social workers, counsellors, occupational therapist, physiotherapist and complementary therapist as well as dedicated nursing staff- who all working together to create individualy tailored plan of each patient.
Everything Marie Curie Hospice offers is free of charge which is why we desperately nedd people like you and me.
Running the hospice costs over £5.3 million each year. In 2011 we managed to care for more than 1,000 patients within the Day Therapy Unit and in-patient wards.
