We provide expert care and support to young people with cancer

Story

Hello Everyone,

As many of you know, I completed the Birmingham Half Marathon last Sunday. I ran the marathon on behalf of The Teenage Cancer Trust Charity, which is providing my own family with invaluable support.

My stepson Aiden Walvin, was recently diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Unfortunately, Aiden is not alone in receiving such devastating news. Around seven young people aged between 13 and 24 are diagnosed with cancer every day in the UK

As a result of Aiden’s diagnosis, we have experienced first hand the importance of the Teenage Cancer Trust and the work it does to ensure that Aiden, and other young people like him, are comfortable while receiving treatment in their fight against cancer.

Teenage Cancer Trust is the only charity dedicated to providing expert care and support from the moment a teenager hears the word ‘cancer’. They treat them as young people first and cancer patients second. Everything the charity does is to improve quality of life and chances of survival.

Teenage Cancer Trust relies on donations to fund its vital work. Thanks to all of you who have so far made a donation to Teenage Cancer via my Just Giving page. If you would still like to donate to this vital charity please feel free to do so.

So how did I do..............?

I trained hard to beat a target time of 2 hours so I’m delighted with 1:55.42. Having never taken on such a great challenge myself, this places me in the top 5,000 of the 20,000 runners who joined my efforts on the streets of Birmingham.

It was a great event and lots of fun on the day, but the training was hard and Aiden was, and remains, my inspiration every step of the way.

Next year I hope to better my time and to see some of you running alongside me!
