I survived 5 cardiac arrests in just over a day in 2012. I didn’t know it but I had developed a condition called Ventricular Arrhythmia. It causes the heart to go into overdrive so that it can no longer function. Various people with CPR training helped me to survive the 3 events outside hospital and I was fitted with an internal defibrillator (ICD) and since have returned to full fitness.
The BH funds CPR training and research which develops brilliant life saving devices such as ICDs. I am one of an increasing number of people who survive such events. Much of this is down to the work of the BHF and partner organisations. Join with us in helping to reduce the terrible human cost of heart disease.
I am a regular runner and have been since my 50s. Now aged 70 I regularly run 200kms a month. To make this challenge more stretching therefore I will look to run 300kms in this period.
