Story
Hello ... I recently puchased some new shoes for the purpose of climbing a very tall hill which I was talked into climbing up by my fitness crazy sister, Lizzie. Currently they`ve only had a walk round my lounge but are looking forward to being warn in before the big challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro!
Now for the serious bit...
I plan to pay for the cost of my trip, and then raise £1000 on top
of this to give to three charities. The first is the Guildford Town
Centre Chaplaincy, the second is the charity in Tanzania called Uncodet that I will
be working with for a week after climbing Mount Kili, and the third is a charity called Mkombozi that some others in our group will be working with the second week. Brief details of these are below:
Guildford Town Centre Chaplaincy: runs Guildford Street Angels which
is a project where volunteers spend a night on the street, with the aim of helping those in
need and being a positive presence around the town. The project has
been incredibly well received by the local authorities and police, as
well as the folks who encounter Street Angels on the streets.
Tanzania:
Uru North Community Development Trust. 'UNCODET' is a community NGO representing 4 villages (Njari, Ongoma, Mrawi and Msuni) in the Uru area, about 30 minutes drive from Moshi town and at the foot of Kilimanjaro. UNCODET is a shining example of how communities in rural Tanzania can be proactive in working together to address common problems. This week placement will allow part of your donation to be used within this local community to pay for materials & local labour as we get our hands dirty on renovation/refurbishment &construction focused projects in the district.
Mkombozi (meaning "liberator" in Swahili) is the leading child-focused agency in Tanzania's Kilimanjaro and Arusha regions, using education, research, advocacy, and outreach to help vulnerable children and youth to grow in mind, body and spirit. These are some of the ways that Mkombozi tackles the complex issues surrounding child vulnerability. For more information about Mkombozi visit www.mkombozi.org
Thank you very much for taking time to look at my page. I would appreciate any donation you can give.
Love, Bev
