Macmillan Charity Raceday · 11 June 2022 ·

Macmillan and York Racecourse have partnered together for over 50 years now to help support people living with cancer through a number of activities that have raised millions of pounds.

Story

The Macmillan Charity Raceday is the oldest and largest event of its kind in the country. In 2021 we celebrated our 50th anniversary and are very proud to have raised over £9 million for people living with cancer during that time. Held every June, the highlight of our activities is The Ernest Cooper Macmillan Ride of Their Lives race that sees 12 amateur jockeys ride down the famous Knavesmire course. Each year 25,000 spectators enjoy a day with us and cheer these brave riders on as they take on the challenge of their lifetime.

As some of you may know, my mum was diagnosed with Leukaemia in 2017. Undergoing four rounds of chemotherapy treatments at James Cook was a very difficult time for our family. I cannot thank the team of nurses and doctors involved in her care enough. Macmillan played a huge part in our journey from providing as simple as serving tea and biscuits within the ward to giving emotional and financial advice and support. I will be forever grateful to everyone involved that has made it possible that my mum is here to watch me take part in this race.

I am very excited to be taking part in the Macmillan Ride of their Lives, at York Racecourse 11th June. Over the next upcoming months, I will be trying my best to raise as much money for Macmillan as I possibly can to allow others access to the help and support my family had. Whilst undergoing lots of fitness training and riding to prepare to ride a racehorse down the Knavesmire at York.

Any donations will be hugely appreciated.

Lots of Love
