Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
The great news is that 7 of us completed the 6 miles on Saturday, 27th August and 14 started out but because of time constraints and previous engagements were unable to complete the walk on Saturday but did so on another day.
Kate I. drove up from Cardiff the day before to take part in the walk and Auriel drove over on the day from Milton Keynes. We all met up at Thornton's in the Westgate Centre for a cup of coffee before setting off. We had just stopped for our first photo when it started to rain so macs were put on which hid our special Parkinson's t-shirts. More's the pity. But it didn't dampen anyone's spirits as we made our way along the banks of the canal. We saw quite a variety of flowers growing there red clover, hemp agrimony, chicory, purple loosestrife, yarrow to name but a few. We saw ducks and geese a-plenty and swans once we got out to the river. We also saw rowers skimming swiftly over the water who rowed standing up. Once out on the meadows we saw fishermen, two people swimming in the Thames and lots of cows and horses grazing on the common land. So there was lots to interest and delight the eye. We even saw the odd rabbit, some cygnets and baby moorhens on our return trip.
Thank you Elizabeth for guiding the walk and for all the interesting facts about it. Thank you Jill for taking such excellent photos. Thank you Charlotte and Hannah for holding the gates open for everyone to pass through and then securing them. Thanks must go to all the members of the party who took part and a special thank you to the six members of the party who completed the 6 miles with me. Praise is due to Joanna and Katie who collected £34.20 in sponsorship money and especially Katie (the youngest member of the team) who, although she was desperately tired, as was the oldest member of the team (ie me), kept going without demur. Katie and Joanna *YOU ARE STARS*
AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST THANKS TO ALL YOU GENEROUS DONORS. YOUR SUPPORT HAS BEEN AMAZING AND HAS GIVEN ME SUCH A BOOST. THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY HEART.

Did you know that 1 in 500 people develop Parkinson's Disease?
Did you know that research into PD is funded entirely through voluntary contributions?
£1000 could fund a cutting-edge research project for a week.
That's why I'm fundraising yet again to raise money towards research.
I can't run any more but I can still walk and so I have set us an extra stiff challenge this year to make us worthy of your sponsorship. In 2009 we walked 5km, in 2010 we walked 6km.
Now on Saturday, 27th August, 2011 we are going to walk 6 miles!!!!!!!! It'll be a challenge for me but I know I'll manage it because I've got such a wonderful support team in Elizabeth, Jan, Jill, Jenny, Kate, Kate, Auriel, Ruth, Joanna, Katie (and Julie, who'll be with us in spirit as I hope all of you who visit this page will be.)
We start the walk in Oxford where we walk along a stretch of the canal before joining the Thames Path and following the river to Wolvercote (scenes of Morse). Then we return via Port Meadow (Oxford's flood plain), the Nature Reserve and rejoin the canal and finish back where we started from.
Please help me realise my target, I can't do it without you.
