Story
This April I will be running the Brighton Marathon for Square Pegs Arts. My younger brother, Joel, has been going to Square Pegs for three years now. It is a fun, friendly and welcoming group, which he really enjoys, and where he has made lots of friends. Due to his disabilities, Joel would be unable to access a regular drama group, so this has given him the opportunity to participate in something he loves. He has really grown in confidence over the three years, and it is wonderful to see him perform in the shows, in which he performs with great enthusiasm.
We provide opportunities for vulnerable, socially isolated people with learning disabilities and autism to be involved in high quality Arts based groups, projects and performances. This allows people to be engaged in purposeful activity where they can build friendships and feel a real sense of belonging. We use drama, music and creative based methods to build confidence and self-esteem, develop social communication skills and other transferable skills so that everyone can achieve and maintain positive wellbeing and be their best self.
