A little about me

My name is Ben Kemp. As a committed long-distance runner, I have graduated from half marathons, to marathons, and now focus on even longer mountain and trail races. I have for a long time dreamt of running the West Highland Way race. An immense challenge, it is much further than I have ever run before, involving running through the night up the west coast of Scotland, crossing the magnificent mountain landscapes of Loch Lomond, Rannoch Moor and Glen Coe.

I don’t know whether I can do it – I hope I can – I know for sure I will find it very hard. This is a special race for me and I am delighted to do it for such a good cause. Thank you so much for your support.

A little about the race

 It is called the West Highland Way Race and as the name suggests it follows the West Highland Way. It starts at Milgavie Railway Station (7 miles north of Glasgow centre) at 1 a.m. on Saturday 22 June 2013 and competitors have to reach Fort William Leisure Centre by noon on Sunday 23 June 2013. This is 35 hours to cover 95 miles including 14,760 feet of ascent. More information about the race can be found at www.westhighlandwayrace.org

A little about Freedom from Torture

Freedom from Torture, formerly the Medical Foundation for the Care of Victims of Torture, has been working for 25 years to provide direct clinical services to survivors of torture who arrive in the U.K. , as well as striving to protect and promote their rights. Since its inception, over 50,000 individuals have been referred for help. Thanks to the dedication of staff and volunteers – as well as scores of passionate supporters and funders – thousands of torture survivors have been able to rebuild their lives in incredibly difficult circumstances.
