Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
On March 25th 2022 both Ben and Edd Hall will be competing in the Marathon de Sables and are hoping to raise money for the Bluebell Wood children’s hospice.
The Marathon de Sables is a 150 mile foot race across the Sahara desert which is considered by the athletic community to be the hardest foot race on earth!
The race takes place over six days, with distances ranging from a full marathon distance to an epic 50 mile run on the 4th day of the race. Last year a temperature of 58 degrees C was recorded during the sand dune stage.
Competitors are also required to be fully self-sufficient throughout the whole race which means we will be carrying all our own food, clothing, sleeping bag and mandatory equipment in a rucksack which usually weights around 10kg.
Neither of us have ever competed in a marathon let alone a multi stage ultra-marathon, so the last year has been a tough training program going from not being runners to running hundreds of miles each month. There’s been some tough weeks, running late at night and in the early hours of the morning to ensure we’ve got ourselves in the best physical condition to compete. We’ve battled through numerous injuries you’d expect from a training schedule like this so it has been a tough process.
Bluebell Wood children’s hospice is a fantastic facility offering palliative care and support to families who have a child or young person with a shortened life expectancy and complex medical needs. We hope to raise as much as we can so that we can help support Bluebell Wood.
Closer to the start of the race we will post a link where you will be able to track our progress through the desert as we’ll be carrying a gps tracker.
A massive thanks to anybody who can sponsor us to compete in the race, with all donations going directly to Bluebell Wood
