Story
Hi!
I'm Ben and as some of you may know, I've not been well..... In August 2015 I was unexpectedly diagnosed with Stage 4 rectal cancer. The disease had already spread to my liver and my prognosis was not terribly good.
I received absolutely world class treatment thanks to our incredible NHS and the staff at Addenbrookes hospital. After undergoing radiotherapy, a liver resection, APR surgery and 6 months of chemo, I am currently showing no evidence of disease.
Colorectal cancers are the fourth most common type of cancer diagnosed in the UK but the second most deadly. When diagnosed at an early stage it is very treatable but that treatment is often life changing and leaves survivors with a range of issues to contend with. It is a cancer that is on the rise in younger people despite traditionally being seen as a disease of old age.
I recently discovered SUP and it has been an incredible way for me to regain my fitness after my treatment ended. I will be taking part in a 12Km SUP event on the 25th of June and hope to raise some money for Bowel cancer UK. They are the UK's leading Bowel Cancer research charity and are involved in projects that will save the lives of people in a similar position to the one I found myself in.
If you can spare a few quid for this extremely worthy cause I would really appreciate it!
Thanks! Ben (@Bum.rush)
