Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page. My name is Belén Pardo, I am 24 years old and basically since I was a child I have been a dreamer. I know that one drop doesn`t make the ocean but the ocean is made of millions of drop so I want to believe that my drop is important. I think we are very privileged of been born where we did and that frequently we don’t appreciate. Also if you have the chance of helping someone why not just do it you never know when you might need help and you would like a friendly hand to help you. Because all this at the end of April –beginning of May I will be off to Nepal for 12 weeks to volunteer with Restless Development! This is part of International Citizen Service (ICS), which sends young people from the UK abroad to help with development programmes around the world.
I’ll be working alongside volunteers from Nepal––, on a project that aims to improve the employability skills and livelihoods of young people in the Kathmandu region. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help; we will be working with the local community to hopefully make a difference that is real and sustainable. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.
Being selected for ICS Restless Development is a three part process made up of fundraising, the overseas placement and Action at Home when I return. Before I leave in April I have to raise £800 for Restless Development. This money doesn't fund my place on the programme (as ICS is a government funded scheme) but goes directly to Restless Development allowing them to continue to bring positive change to the developing communities they work with. You can find out more about the work ICS and Restless Development do on their website http://restlessdevelopment.org/ics and if you have any questions feel free to quiz me about it!
I've got some exciting fundraising ideas, a music concert, a first aids course, food sales, treasure hunt in local parks and a crazy clothes challenge. You can keep track of how I get on here on my Justgiving page so keep checking back for updates! Please donate whatever you can, your generosity means the world and will be going to help make a real and sustainable difference to young people and communities across the world.
