Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have decide to face my fears and do something challenging - a tandem skydive for the Alzheimer's Society on 8 September. I have personally experienced the harrowing effects this disease can have on both the sufferer and their family - my Grandma suffered with this debilitating disease for a couple of years before passing away 29th July 2012.
The Alzheimer's Society is a membership organisation that works to improve the quality of life of people affected by dementia in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. There are currently 750,000 sufferers in the UK and this is projected to rise to more than a million people in the coming decade. Dementia is terminal and there is no cure; one in three people over 65 will die with dementia.
£50 will pay for someone with dementia to go to a Dementia Café session every week for a month, where they can meet others, share experiences and feel less isolated. And the more I raise, the bigger the difference it will make.
£500 could fund a PhD researcher for two weeks to continue vital reasearch into understanding the causes of dementia, how it can be treated and ultimately find a cure.
