We wanted to run the Glasgow Half Marathon in memory of my mum. My mum was originally from Kilmarnock in Scotland and was very proud of it, so I thought what a better place to run than the streets in which she grew up.
Many of you will know that my mum fell ill over Christmas last year. On Christmas eve she was rushed into the John Radcliffe in which doctors realised she was suffering a bleed on her brain. They operated straight away and we were able to see my mum after, we then were able to sit with her all night and my family from Scotland drove down overnight. On boxing day my mum lost her battle for life. The whole time we were at the hospital the nurses and doctors were amazing keeping us informed the whole time, giving us a private family room where we could take ourselfs of to if we need to. The staff even bent the rules allowing more visitors than was usually allowed and letting stay with my mum the entire time. My mum was treated with dignitty and respect the whole time. They even gave each patient little Christmas presents on Christmas Day.
I want to be able to give something back to the Neuro ITU in the hope they maybe able to help others who find themselves in the same position as it really could happen to anybody, and hopefully save lives. I also hope it will show everybody from the paramedics to all the doctors and nurses how truly grateful I am.
