Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page...
Feeling more wonder wimp than wonder woman (it's good to have something to aspire to) in a little over ten weeks, I will be taking to the capital’s streets for one of the world’s biggest running events.
Training is well underway and I have to say running is exactly how I remember it. Exhausting, boring, yet somehow exhilarating. I now see spending time on the treadmill as a welcome excuse to catch up on albums that I'd either forgotten about or not had time to listen to. And, running outside is just, well, soggy and cold right now, but I'm optimistic and as we get closer to April I'm sure I’ll be making a start on a tan!
Anyway, I digress, there's a serious matter at hand, and a very good reason I'm going through the long slog of training so I can complete this year’s London Marathon, the whole 26.2 miles of it!
I've wanted to set myself a physical challenge for 2011and love that I can raise money for a good cause too!
I'm running, (or at least starting to) on behalf of Crimestoppers http://www.crimestoppers-uk.org/
About Crimestoppers
Crimestoppers is a charity that provide people with a phone line through which they can anonymously provide information regarding criminal activity. They also work in the community to educate and raise awareness of crime related issues. Last year they took their 1 millionth call and since forming in 1988 those calls have lead to more than
* 99,130 people being arrested and charged with offences including murder, rape, drug dealing, burglary, robbery and theft – over 800 people alone with murder
* £112 million of stolen property being recovered
* Drugs with a street value of over £185 million being seized
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - I raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
EVERY day someone somewhere in the UK is put through the horrific experiences that Crimestoppers report. People being violently mugged, stabbed, and not to mention the long term psychological effects. I would hate to think that those who commit such crimes get away with it because people have been too scared to give information to the police and am grateful to Crimestoppers, the staff and volunteers who give their time to try and make it a safer place for us.
I know this is the time of year when you probably get bombarded with sponsorship requests but I can promise that this will be the only one you'll get from me (at least for many, many, (did I mention many?), years...)
love
- becky (aka W.W)
