I am fortunate enough to have the opportunity to volunteer for 3 months on a development programme in Zanzibar, Tanzania in September. This is part of International Citizen Service (ICS), which brings young people together to fight poverty and make a difference where it is needed most. Around half of the population live below the poverty line with the average annual income being just £160. This poverty is especially prevalent in the rural areas of the country, where there huge disparities between them and the more affluent urban areas.

I’ll be working alongside volunteers from Tanzania, on a project that works with young people to improve their skills and employability following education. ICS works with communities that have specifically requested their help. It also aims to inspire young people in the UK and overseas to become active citizens who are passionate about long term community development.

I need to raise £800 for VSO international (voluntary service overseas) who are one of the respected development charities that deliver ICS. This will allow them to continue to bring about positive change in the developing communities where they work. It's important to know that the money I'm raising is not for the cost of my trip, but for the charity, so they can fund the life changing work they do worldwide.You can check out their amazing work here: http://www.vsointernational.org/
