Story
To all my friends, family, colleagues and those kind enough to visit my page,
I have decided to complete a 400km cycling challenge across the island of Cuba, to raise money for Women V Cancer.
In October 2014, my little legs will be pedalling 250 miles in the space of five days, along with a group of other ladies aiming to complete the same challenge.
The money I raise for Women V Cancer will be divided equally between three charities: Breast Cancer Care, Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust and Ovarian Cancer Action, and used to support their invaluable work providing help to those affected by these cancers.
I realise how lucky I am with my life, and after my close friend Lauren Eaton completed a similar cycling challenge for the same charities last October, I felt inspired and decided it was high time I supported the work too. If I can contribute in any positive way to a family's experience with cancer, I want to do it.
I’ll be doing all sorts of things to raise funds to help fight these cancers – from bake sales to jumble sales. I am aiming to hold a Cuban themed night complete with mojitos, piña coladas, food and dancing too, so stay tuned.
Now on to the training. My friends Dairy Milk and Green & Blacks will tell you that I am not exactly the next Victoria Pendleton (see photos of my old cycling helmet for details).
However! I have a brand new helmet and bike now (thank you Dad) and have already started cycling.
In the months leading up to the challenge I will be training almost every day, with seven hour training sessions at the weekends, as well as attending spin classes, weight training, swimming, running and eating less chocolate (am in denial about this part).
This is a huge challenge for me and I would be lying if I said I wasn't a little bit nervous - especially as I don't know anyone else who will be going to Cuba with me yet. That said, I am really looking forward to fundraising and can't wait to get pedalling.
I'll be keeping you up to date with my progress so keep a lookout for photos of my training (and my massive training schedule), fundraising activities and more.
Although I have a while to go, I have quite a big target to hit, so I would be so grateful for any support you can provide.
Thank you very much for visiting, come back soon!
