Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, I will give you a short story on what happened to my dad and what I am doing to raise money for British Heart Foundation.

My Dad (Davy Harper) had a short lived battle with cancer of the lungs (Diagnosed Oct 2020) and was admitted into hospital on Jan 4th 2021 with difficulty breathing. At the time everyone thought the breathing difficulties had been coming from the cancer in the lungs.

Dad spent almost 2 weeks in Antrim Hospital while the doctors tried to figure out what the problem really was, the doctors came to dad on the 11th of January  asking dad "did he know he had Heart disease" This was news to my dad, as he had never shown symptoms and last he had spoke with his doctor was about a leaky valve 10 years previous but because the doctor never sent for him to have tests he assumed everything was fine.

The day of dads death my mum Denise, sister Samantha, brother Darren and myself had all been in touch with dad via video calls and text's. Dad seemed to be in good spirits telling me he was hoping to get home soon, My mum and dad spoke via video call at 3:15pm on the 14th January with dad still in good spirit......... at 4:20pm  mum received a call from Antrim Hospital saying my dad had died from a serious cardiac arrest at 4:10pm less than an hour after mum and dad last spoke.

The initial breathing difficulties that had my dad admitted into hospital had actually been a symptom of the heart attack.

As you can imagine, this has been complete shock and heartbreak for family, Friends and colleagues of dad but especially on my mum.

Mum and Dad had celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary just a few months before dad had been diagnosed with cancer and mum was only getting to grips with this. Then out of nowhere the love of her life is gone.

Our team are raising funds to help BHF beat the heartbreak of heart disease.

I set myself a target to raise £4000 for BHF through a 400 miles cycle around Northern Ireland over 4 days, June 16th, 17th, 18th & 19th 2022.

I am over the moon to announce we completed our challenge and smashed our target by day 3!!

I had family members uncle Robert, cousin Nicole and cousin Criag complete the cycle with me raising funds for BHF.

We are still collecting for the British Heart Foundation for another month or so, I'm not expecting individuals to donate large amounts of money, even the smallest of donations help the British Heart Foundation in so many ways!  The old saying goes....."look after the pennies, the pounds look after themselves"

From the bottom of my heart , Thank you so much for your support, Keep an eye out on my Facebook page (link below) for updates on how we are getting on and feel free to come down and show support on the day of the event and the return leg!
