Story
Thank you for visiting Team BearBabe's site. We are Leanne Franklin-Smith and Chris Foot and we're racing to the Magnetic North Pole in April 2010 to raise funds for Help for Heroes. We have a team website with more info - www.bearbabe.co.uk
Help for Heroes is a relatively new charity, set up in 2007, but with a very real need and a long-overdue issue to bring to the attention of all of us. The charity aims to raise money to support and provide rehabilitation services and equipment for injured military personnel. The charity is non-political, instead focussing on providing a practical way for the general public to help provide the support desparately needed by those that have been injured in the various conflicts around the world, and their families. It's a cause very dear to our hearts, and we hope that you will feel that it deserves your support too.
The task that Iwe've set is to compete in the Polar Challenge, which is a 320 nautical mile race from Resolute Bay in Northern Canada to the 1996 postion of the magnetic North Pole. The race is perfomed in three sections, with 2 resupply check points en-route. Described by Polar explorer and endurance expert Dr. Mike Stroud MBE as "The toughest challenge on Earth", it's an event that attracts a lot of media attention (great for the charity), and a certain type of person (it's going to be cold!)!
Leanne (Little Polar Bear!) and Chris (Grizzly Bear) thank you in advance for your help and support - please spread the word!
Please visit www.bearbabe.co.uk for information about the race, training, fundraising events etc - you can donate through either site!!
