My Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 46 2020 · 16 August 2020 ·
Back in 2012 my beloved wife Marie was diagnosed with a grade 4 astrocytoma, not only was her world was turned upside down by the news so to were the lives of family and friends.
The Oncology team at Addenbrook's were brilliant, they worked with speed and accuracy, care, kindness and understanding, Marie endured Radiotherapy and Chemotherapy and three major brain operations in 2012, 2013 and 2015. Unfortunately the last operation was too much for her failing body and she pasted away in August 2015.
Up until the illness finally took its toll, Marie was always positive and was described as a perfect patient, as husband and wife we shared the very best of times and the very worst of times.
One of the the most helpful groups of people who supported Marie through her time in hospital and during her end of life care were the brilliant Macmillan nurses, not only did they care for Marie they reminded the family they were there for us to.
Marie was cared for with the upmost dignity up to the very end, the family were supported in the days after, the help and support given allowed those who were left by this tragedy to grieve, mourn and cope in a life without Marie.
To say thank you in the most practical way I can imagine is to raise valuable funds for the nurses can continue their good work for other who need that special care that they can only give.
I was lucky enough to ride for Team Macmillan in 2017's Ride London to raise precious funding, in 2020 I will be wearing the green of Team Macmillan once again.
The 100 hundred miles, the tired legs, the sweat soaked jersey and the saddle sores are a sacrifice I am honoured to give to raise funds for the brilliant and caring Macmillan nurses.
Please give what you can.
Thanks for supporting my fundraising.
