Marathon des Sables 2017 · 8 April 2017 ·

We provide valuable support to veterans to empower and guide them on their journey.

Story

Since first hearing about the Marathon Des Sables in 1991, I have always wanted to complete this very unique event

Having tried twice previously to get a place, on my third attempt I was successful in gaining a place.

The event consists of 160 miles in the Morracan desert, taking place over 7 days, broken down into various stages. The longest stage being the solitutude stage of between 45-50 miles, along with a formal marathon distance 26 miles.

Water, medical care and tent cover are all thats provided - everything else is carried by the individual.

Training began before being accepted back in November 2015.

During my time in civvy street I have encountered numerous veterans who are still having issues in civilian life, as a result of encounters sustained during their military careers- and thought it the right thing to do to, to choose a charity which supports these men and women, back into a civilian way of life.
