Story
Here's the plan:
I have wanted to give something back to Great Ormond Street Hospital for a while and when I felt the time was right - now’s that time!…. In true Baz fashion I haven’t held back on this one, I’m attempting to cycle the length of Britain on a Boris Bike - idiot.
TFL have donated 2 x Boris Bikes to me for FREE (ones a back up) and friends and family are joining me along the way in the Bignellmobil. The journey will take me from John O’groats Scotland, to GOSH London, to Lands End Cornwall over 15days. It’s a little nuts, totally hard, and I’m taking my own holiday to do it, which means I have a time limit. I’ve decided to cycle via London so I can visit the Hospital mid way through the journey, and also means if successful (big IF) it will be the furthest ever cycle on a Boris Bike (google said so!).
My experience of cycling isn't great to say the least. However… I've been working hard over the last 4 months to try and get ready for cycle of this kind. I've been cycling anywhere and everywhere possible from Paris, to Wales to festivals, work, cricket matches, the pub, as well as Boris Biking the London to Brighton Bike ride :) We will soon see if it has payed off...
70-80 miles a day. 15days. On a Boris. LOL #bazvsboris
Why I'm doing it:
I was very ill in 2006. In 2007 at 16 years old I weighed 26.5kg, mainly because of doctors not being able to nail how to treat me. Thanks to my Mumma’s research and pure will to not give up and find an answer (legend), I was later diagnosed with Crohn's Disease and due to poor health, transferred to Great Ormond Street Hospital, London. Without going into too much detail, over 3 years the place turned my life around and I often forget the how different my life would be if I hadn’t arrived at their doorstep.
Great Ormond Street do this all the time, I’m not a one off. I’m raising money for young individuals that find themselves in a bit of a pickle due to illness like I did. Whether it’s for the charity or just because of the my nuts idea, or both, please donate however small - It’s a totally worth while cause which I have experienced firsthand, a place I couldn’t speak more highly of.
