Hatton House want to let you know of an exciting event that will be running in the summer term on
Sunday the 19th June. As a sequel to the successful
'Swim the Channel Challenge' that happened at the Prep School last year we are raising the bar and attempting to cycle all the way from from Bath to Sydney.
Who?
Everyone! We want the whole of the Monkton Family to come together to help complete this challenge and to see what can be accomplished through the unification of the three schools; from the Nursery right through to the Senior School. We would like ages from 2 year olds up to Grandparents of leavers to be encouraged to come and play their part on the day.
What?
The goal is for the Monkton Family to try and cover the distance between Bath and Sydney by pedal power over the course of one day. This is a staggering 10,659 miles.
When?
Sunday 19th of June - save the date!
We are looking to have separate time slots throughout the day for different year/age groups, this will prevent too much congestion occurring on the track. Feel free to come for as long as you would like, we are anticipating that some families will come morning and afternoon bringing a picnic to have on the grass next to the track.
Please Sign up to the
Doodle Poll clicking on the link and signing up to a particular time slot.
Where?
Odd Down Cycle Track has been booked all day on Sunday 19th June. This is a fantastic facility 10 mins down the road from the Prep School. The mile long circuit is a completely safe (and flat!) location to try and complete the challenge. There is ample room for many cyclists as well as space to set up picnic lunches and afternoon teas.
How?
We hope that there will be around 600 people from the Monkton Family; pupils (Nursery, Pre-Prep, Prep & Senior), parents, staff, friends & family coming along to enjoy a wonderful day together and complete around 17 circuits each of the track. We have ordered 600 timing chips so that each rider can know how many miles they have contributed towards the total. It will also allow us to find out how close to the goal we will have reached.
Why?
Monkton are hoping to maintain our important link with the community through the support of the local charity Send a Cow. We are hoping to raise a pound for each mile that we cycle for this amazing charity, that works with the families and farmers across Africa from Lesotho to Ethiopia.
