Story
Thank you for taking the time to visit our JustGiving page.
We (Barry and Michael - father and son) are planning to walk across the whole of England covering a distance of approximately 320 Kilometres (200 miles) in May 2010 over a period of 12 days. The route will take us from St Bees in the Lake District to Robin Hood's Bay in North Yorkshire (click here for more details of the hike). A detailed map of the route can be seen here http://cms-stu-iis.gre.ac.uk/km44/map/ .
Recently, Rob Disspain (Barry's brother in-law and Michael's uncle) succumbed to Lung Cancer, leaving a wife and two young children, a loss made all the more tragic by the fact that Rob was a fitness fanatic, a medical doctor and a non-smoker for many years who always ate healthily and was incredibly active.
We are aiming to raise at least £2,500 for the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation in the hope that we can in some way contribute towards research into the prevention and cure of this illness.
We are keeping a blog of all our preparation and also provide a live update whilst doing the hike so that you can keep updated with our progress. The blogs web address is http://barryandmikesc2c.blogspot.com/ .
In the current economic climate, we understand that money is tight, but any donation, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Once you donate, the money is sent directly to the charity. If you are a UK taxpayer, JustGiving will ensure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation. So please, help us to reach our target.
Together we will beat Cancer.
