Story

Bangor Grammar Five get set to “do time”…

Hoping to bring a whole new meaning to the phrase “crime pays”, some of Bangor Grammar School’s most formidable personalities, including its Principal, Elizabeth Huddleson, are to become convicts for the day in aid of local charity Abaana.

The five-strong chain-gang will rock the famous Crumlin Road Jailhouse on Wednesday 12th November seeking a bail-out from staff, students, family and friends – and remaining incarcerated until at least £4,000 is raised for the charity!  Joining Mrs Huddleson will be retired Headmaster Stephen Connolly, the Head Boy Robert Gamble, pupil Jake Murray and Head of Year 11 Mark Dickson.

The fundraiser marks a final push in the School’s ambitious project to build a Primary School in Gulu, Uganda.  So far over £60,000 has been raised and planning is well underway for a 44 strong team of staff and pupil volunteers to travel to Uganda next summer to commence the building work and to work with street children in Kampala.
