Over the past 6 years, we have delivered over 800 Totes of Hope to the Oncology Clinic at Bluewater Health.

This started as what I called my ‘Labour of Love”. The first year it was my then second Valentines without my late husband. It was a way to honour him and share love with others who were dealing with an incredible scary and challenging time in their life. 

I vividly recalled how each night before chemo we would always gather all the items that currently have made their way into the totes, along with reading material and Rob’s iPad and headphones (to listen to his music), to help pass the time. In the beginning, the first couple of treatments you have no idea of the items you might need. I just thought that this would help our warriors fighting this battle, as well as helping their care givers have one last thing to have to think about. 

When you are living this, you have so much going on that it becomes overwhelming. I had hoped to make it even just a tiny bit easier, providing not only items that would help with their physical comfort, but also with their emotional comfort. As the feedback started coming in from recipients and their families, they shared how much it meant knowing that someone out there, who they didn’t even know, cared about them and were in their corner . It was that feedback that got us to where we are today. 

During this time we have provided over 800 chemo care totes. We have had bags sponsored locally but also from out East, out West, from the US and Taiwan. It’s become an International Labour of Love.

We need your help to keep this program running! Our goal is to ask the community to sponsor 250 Totes of Hope bags this year.
