Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
In April 2012, I was 100 meters off the summit of Scarfel Pike (Englands highest peak), when I suffered a heart attack whilst training for the UK 3 Peaks for the second time having already completed the challenge in 2010. This came without any warning and a complete surprise not only to myself but, my circle of friends as they would have voted me 'as the least likely to have a heart attack'.
I was lucky to have a signal on my phone enabling me to summon help and an RAF team with a GP amongst them who were on there way off the mountain to attend to me. I was airlifted to hospital were after a number of tests was eventually diagnosed with Angina. Again, I was very lucky.
Over the past six years, both my wife and I have lost close family and friends to sudden heart failure as a result of CHD. Many had no idea they were in any danger.
I now concider myself fully recovered and enjoy a variety of sporting challengies as means to staying fit, as the heart is like any other muscle in the body and needs to exercised daily but still attend bi annual visits to my local GP to keep and eye on the old ticker. It was eventually put down to stress, so I got rid of the stress and semi retired.
I am now a 54 year old student into my second year as a full time undergraduate studying for a BA (hons) Health and Applied Social Studies.
In 2012, my wife, myself and group of friends started a charity fund raising not for profit group, raising vital funds for both national and local charities/groups. Please take time out to visit www.burnleyretredz.co.uk The link to this page can be found there as well.
I enjoy cycling and have already completed the Way of the Roses (170
miles) for another charity and though challenging at times, loved every
miniute of it.
The BHF for all the reasons above, has been an organisation that means so much to us and regulary visit the shops here in Burnley and donate money and used furniture.
Please support my personal challenge and donate what ever you can as it may just save a life and quit possibly yours.
Thankyou
