Story
I will join 99 HSBC colleagues from around the world in March 2020 to trek 100km across the Andean Mountains in Ecuador. We aim to collectively raise $350,000 to support mental health charities, and increase awareness for Mental Health Issues. The 5-day trek will reach a peak altitude of 4,300 meters/14,108 feet at the base camp of Mt. Cotopaxi. The trek is graded as "tough" given the extreme altitude and requires a high level of fitness and endurance...so, I have my work cut out for me to get prepared before March!!
It is estimated that close to 11% of the global population (circa 800 million people!) suffers from a mental health disorder. Mental illness is
way too common. 1 in 4 people will experience a mental health problem at some point in their lives, yet there still remains a strong social stigma and discrimination associated with mental illness that can make it more difficult for those suffering to seek the help they need to recover.
I am trekking to raise funds for the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (https://adaa.org/). ADAA is an international non-profit dedicated to the prevention, treatment, and cure of anxiety, depression, OCD, PTSD, and linked disorders through education, practice, and research.
Through this trek, I and my 99 HSBC colleagues are working to raise $350,000 for charities that increase awareness of mental health issues, reduce the stigma associated with mental illness and provide help and support to those affected.
I hope you will join me in supporting the ADAA! I will update my page with photos as I start my training in the mountains surrounding Mexico
City!
