Story
Brookfield Community School has partnered with a teaching farm in Malealea in the southern part of Lesotho, a country heavily affected by droughts and soil erosion. We raised three and a half thousand pounds last year thanks to the generosity of the school community and that money has been spent to help safeguard the long term future of the farm with the purchase and installation of a submersible pump to replace a dried up borehole together with additional solar powered pumps to irrigate the whole farm. While we have sadly had to postpone sending students to Lesotho this summer, we remain committed to supporting our partners in Malealea.
This is particularly important in the current time as Lesotho is currently facing a serious crisis. The government have declared a national emergency due to food shortages caused by both drought and the impact of the covid-19 lockdown.
Therefore for one week starting on the 13th July, we are asking all members of the school community to take part in the "No-Dessert Challenge". This means asking everyone who is willing to forego their favourite desserts, and then to donate the money saved on their shopping bill to this Just Giving page. All of the money donated will go straight to the charity Africa’s Gift which is working in partnership with the Malealea Development Trust, and will be used to fund food parcels to the local community.
If you’re willing, we encourage you to take the one week “No-Dessert Challenge”.
